Art & Poetry
This project pairs twelve local visual artists with twelve local poets. Each participant provides an initial piece of work which is then passed on to a member of the other group for inspiration and a new piece is created.
The end result will be twenty-four poems and twenty-four pieces of artwork. Artwork ranges from metal sculptures, blown glass and jewelry to photography, paintings, mixed media, and print work. Poem topics range from personal experiences and nature to love, empowerment, and stream of consciousness.
Artists involved with this project include:
Amanda Gaastra, Amanda Paffrath, Christopher Sklba, Dee Hutch, Jerry Belland, Jessica Schafer, Maureen Fritchen, Pamela Smiley, Phillip Schultz, Samira Gdisis, Susan Sorenson, and Trenton Olson.
Poets involved with this project include:
Aaron Lundquist, Jean Preston, Jerry Cross, Kelsey Marie Harris, Kelsey Hoff, Kevo Genius, Marcie Eanes, Nick Demske, Nick Ramsey, Peg Rousar-Thompson, Sandy Christensen, and Travis DuPriest.

2015 ArtSeed Project Grant Applications
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 5/27
May 30th & 31st
On Saturday May 30th and Sunday May 31st one of Wisconsin’s oldest and most respected juried fine art fairs will take place on Monument Square, Main and Sixth streets in Downtown Racine.
The Monument Square Art Festival presents 85 artists from around the country exhibiting works in a variety of media including painting, photography, jewelry, textiles, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media.
In addition to the artist exhibits, MSAF will be offering:
- Art-themed activities for children, including the Racine Art Museum’s RAM on the Road, from 1-4 on Saturday.
- Live entertainment by area musicians throughout the two-day event.
- A silent auction of fine art donated by the exhibiting artists will be offered each day with proceeds benefitting the Racine Arts Council.
- The Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St., will be offering half off admission throughout the weekend. There is no charge for children with a paying adult.
- New this year will be a Food Truck Pavilion offering a variety of menu items including Mediterranean, Asian, Filipino, Pasties, Bowls and Crepes.
